Vibrant, exciting and above all joyful
Here, children develop their musical preferences and skills with dedicated specialist teachers and the opportunity for both group and one-to-one lessons. There’s no musical taste we consider too ‘out there’, and no instrument too obscure!
Each week, Dragons enjoy 800 music lessons and 60 different groups across a spectrum of genres from traditional to popular. And with the opening of our new facility, Music will physically be at the heart of the school – a fitting representation of its centrality to life at the Dragon.
We also have a protected Ensemble programme run by a team of dedicated specialists – an increasing rarity in the Prep School world, but something we know is vital for children to learn to listen, play as part of a team, sight-read, develop valuable social skills and, ultimately, achieve musical excellence.
Our engaging and personal yet disciplined approach has garnered excellent results for students, whether they join us as complete beginners or as musically advanced. And you can hear the outcome for yourself at one of the many performances or recitals we organise for the children over the course of the academic year.
An introduction to Director of Music
“Music is the lifeblood of the school here and it instils all our Dragon values in one activity; giving confidence, self-belief and social skills. As our Head of Instrumental Studies says, ‘Music has a profound and positive impact on children’s intellectual, emotional and physical development. Learning to play an instrument leads to a love of music, and skills which can bring a lifetime of joy.”
