Dragon Rifles

A very exciting new edition to the Quest repertoire, Dragon Rifles is available to all sections of the school. For the Upper School, they will be instructed by qualified professionals in clay pigeon shooting. For the younger ones, there is the opportunity to be coached in air rifle shooting. It will take place at the Oxford Gun Company using their fantastic facilities. Don’t throw away this shot!

Dragon Antlers

Church Farm situated in Sunningwell village has been specially established as a leading red deer farm with state-of-the-art handling facilities. This wonderful facility allows unique opportunities for Dragons to learn about deer husbandry. Furthermore, this Quest promotes a better understanding and appreciation of the issues concerning the countryside, including agriculture, rural affairs, the environment, where food comes from, and food production. Early Summer is the most magical time to be at Church Farm to witness hundreds of baby fawns as they begin to learn their way in the world. With over 350 deer to observe and admire, this is a great opportunity to learn about one of Britain’s best loved but more secretive mammals.

Dragon Putters

The Dragon has a long history of golf with the Draconian first referencing the sport in 1912. Through Quest , that legacy can continue as Dragons of all abilities have the chance to develop their game at one of Oxfordshire’s finest golf courses. Under the watchful eye of PGA Professional and Kirtlington Academy manager Andy Taylor, the children will receive expert advice on how to improve their swing and finesse their putting, as well as tactical game management and course etiquette. Move over Tiger, there’s a Dragon coming!

Reining Dragons

Dragons riding horses sounds like a fairy-tale and this is the chance to make it become reality. Here, the children can discover and develop a love of horses, through the mediums of polo and equestrian. Aimed at beginners, this is an opportunity to build confidence with horses, with education in stable management and horse welfare as well as the technical and tactical aspects of Polo. Reining Dragons takes place at nearby Kirtlington Polo Club and the all-weather facility at Chesterton with the fantastic coaches from Oxford Polo.

Great Dragon Boat Adventure

In the spirit of Skipper Lynam, the first Headmaster of the Dragon School, who was himself a keen sailor and used to take Dragon pupils on sailing adventures in Scotland, The Dragon Boat Adventure promises to rekindle that spirit, albeit a little more locally. The activity will involve a variety of water excursions on boats, both in a conventional sense i.e. learning to sail at Farmoor Reservoir and taking trips down the river Cherwell. The emphasis is very much on confidence building with various crafts on the water, whilst developing nautical knowledge and having a lot of fun in the process.

Dragon Trailblazers

Dragons are heading for the hills! In partnership with our outward-bound friends at Adventure Plus, Trail Blazers provides an insight into the world of off-road biking. You will look at various skills and techniques such as ride position, weight shift and the different use of brakes; as well as cover basic map reading, the skills needed to plan and follow routes and also some basic bike maintenance. Starting at nearby Shotover, the group will explore different and more advanced terrains as the weeks progress – through fields, woods, bike trails and bridleways. With the aim that you will be able to confidently plan an off-road route, cycle it safely and look after your bike, Trail Blazers really is a Quest for Dragons that love adventure and life outdoors.

Bikes and helmets are provided for this activity. Children will require appropriate clothing for being outside.
