Looking back at my time at the Dragon, I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience everything that came with my time there. It was an environment that offered much more than an education, providing me with core experiences to grow and develop my personality. Whether it was in the classroom, on the pitch, or spending time with new friends, I always felt supported and encouraged to be a part of the community, something I learnt to appreciate given my move to the UK not long before.
Sports became a major part of my experience, with the coaches making a concerted effort to cultivate my talents from day one. It was the starting point of my athletic journey which continues to this day. Those moments shaped not only my attitude towards sports, but also how I approach new opportunities going forward.
Academically, I was stretched in the best possible way. There were teachers who truly cared, and lessons that sparked genuine interest, subjects, such as Latin or Theology, I might never have considered otherwise. The education helped me develop a work ethic that has stayed with me up until now, laying the foundation for the student I have become.
However, I am most grateful for the friendships I made, I met people who remain close to me to this day and I often run into old Dragons wherever I go. The network of ODs I am part of seems to be something I will continue to appreciate for many years to come.
All of this was made possible through the Dragon School’s Bursary Programme, I hope many more children will be granted the same opportunities that I was.
