To mark the Platinum Jubilee, on Friday, 10th June we were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi (OD 1997), to our special Jubilee picnic.
As the School gathered in the sunshine on the banks of the River Cherwell, the Princess and her husband, an Old Dragon from 1992–1997, unveiled the Platinum Jubilee bee hive, which now houses a new queen bee and her colony. The two youngest children in the Prep School presented the couple with Dragon honey, extracted by children during our Dragon Bees QUEST activity, accompanied by the brilliant Dragon School band’s rendition of ‘God save the Queen’. This year, to mark this special occasion and the addition of our new Jubilee hive, the Dragon Sale will sell limited-edition Platinum Nectar, extracted from our Dragon hives. In addition to the unveiling of our new hive, Chris Scott, the Dragon’s longest-serving member of current staff, planted a hornbeam (carpinus) tree as part of The Queen’s Canopy initiative.
Meanwhile, at the Pre-Prep, our younger children enjoyed a morning of fun and games, and a spectacular picnic lunch outside, and delighted in being able to wear a red, white or blue Jubilee outfit of their choice!
It was wonderful to be able to bring children and colleagues together for this memorable occasion and celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s remarkable service to this country.
