Throughout this special anniversary year, we’ll be sharing archival treasures and stories from across the community, spotlighting Old Dragons who continue to embody the values of the School in inspiring ways, and bringing the Dragon Spirit to a vibrant programme of events in Oxford and beyond.

FAQs

When is the 150th anniversary being celebrated?
Celebrations will launch in January 2027; a year-long programme of events, stories, and opportunities to reconnect with the School and one another will follow.
Who can attend the events?

Most events will be open to Old Dragons, current and former parents, colleagues, and friends of the School. Some events, however, are tailored to specific groups or year cohorts, with Appreciate a Dragon Day an internal event solely for current young Dragons and Sports Day only for our current Dragon families.

For details on specific events, follow the links above for more information or contact [email protected], who will be happy to answer any questions.

How and when can I book tickets?
Ticketing information will be shared on our website, via email, and through School communications such as Dragon News. Early booking is recommended for Dragon Takes Flight and Dragon Festival, as capacity will be limited. Please note: not all events are ticketed. Please visit each event link above for more information or contact dragonspirit150@dragonschool.org with any questions.
Where will the events take place?

While many events will be held in Oxford, we are also hosting gatherings in London and internationally to ensure as many Old Dragons, parents, and friends of the School as possible can take part.

Hosting Dragon Takes Flight in London allows us to bring the Dragon community together on the biggest possible scale. We were able to secure a larger venue that offers greater accessibility for guests travelling from across the UK and around the world.

Is there anniversary merchandise available to buy?

Yes, in addition to the commemorative book available to buy now, the School is producing a small selection of limited-edition merchandise to mark the School’s 150th year. More details will be shared soon, via email, and through School communications.

How can I show my support if I'm unable to attend the events?

There are many meaningful ways to be part of the Dragon’s 150th anniversary, even if you can’t join us in person. You can make a donation in support of the School’s #SpiritOfTheDragon campaign, which champions our three strategic pillars for 2027 and beyond: Campus, Curriculum, and Community. Your donation will be allocated to the area of greatest need, helping to preserve the School for the next 150 years.

You might also choose to share your Dragon story, reconnect with fellow Old Dragons in your area, or help spread the word about anniversary activities within your network. Every gesture, whether through giving, sharing, or championing the School, helps ensure the Dragon spirit continues to thrive for generations to come.

For more information on how to get involved, please contact [email protected].

Will the Gala have a fundraising element?

Yes, Dragon Takes Flight plays an important role in supporting the School’s future. It is an opportunity to raise vital funds for the School’s Transformational Bursary Programme, which has already given Dragon wings to over 125 children. Guests will be invited to support this life-changing initiative and help open the doors of a Dragon education to many more in the years to come.

What shall I do if I can no longer attend an event?

Some events are expected to be very popular and may operate a waiting list. If you find you are no longer able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that your place can be offered to another member of the community.

In the first instance, please contact the Development team, FAO Imelia Taylor:

Who can I contact with further questions?

Please email dragonspirit150@dragonschool.org or call 01865 315 400 and ask to speak with a member of the Development team.

“It’s a celebration of the community.

It’s a celebration of what makes this School different.”

THE ARCHIVES

The Dragon’s archives, curated by Catherine Lewis, are a treasure trove of stories, photographs, and memories that span generations. From faded prize-giving programmes to handwritten letters home from our earliest boarders, these archives hold the spirit of the School. They preserve the past, celebrate our community and capture the magic that makes the Dragon unforgettable.
