The creative spirit of Dragon School is embodied in a lockdown project involving over 100 members of the community. The Music department coordinated a virtual recording and film of ‘Reach for the Sun’ (Arduus ad Solem) demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration, enthusiasm and modern technology.
It was fantastic to be able to count among the participants:
- a grandparent – Lulu (popstar of the Sixties who has a distinctive and powerful singing voice)
- a parent – Alexander Armstrong (the host of ‘Pointless’ and a gifted bass baritone)
- a parent – Colin Greenwood of critically acclaimed band, Radiohead
- and a young ‘Old Dragon’ – Sebastian Croft (actor in Game of Thrones and Horrible Histories who also writes and performs his own music)
William Morris, Director of Music, is delighted with the recording:
‘Music is a thriving department at the Dragon and we typically run 60 music groups each week. The sudden closure of the School due to the pandemic did not mean that children stopped making music. 700 individual instrumental lessons have been delivered each week remotely and it has been wonderful to see the community project embraced by the children and their families.’
