Year 3 at the Dragon is the last year at the Pre-Prep and also represents the start of Key Stage 2. The children are taught predominantly by their class teacher with differentiated teaching to ensure the right levels of stretch or support (with Learning Support team involved if required). There is specialist teaching for French, Music, Games and Swimming. At this age a greater level of independence is encouraged but home/school partnership is still key and reading is heard twice a week by teachers.
There are opportunities for the children to develop their confidence and skills in performance and public speaking through Poetry Recitations, Balloon Debate Competition and assemblies. There are field trips and enrichment opportunities off site and friendly sports matches against local Prep schools.
A major highlight of Year 3 is the Musical Production which is performed at the Bardwell Road site. Going there for practices and the performance means that the children start to get familiar with the Prep School. There are additional days and sports sessions in the summer term for children to meet their new teachers and look forward to joining Year 4 (E Block) in September.
