The main aim of the Sports department is for every child to leave the Dragon having enjoyed playing Games with a desire to continue playing in the future, whatever the level. Each Year group is timetabled to have at least three scheduled Games sessions each week, with this number bolstered by matches, activities and clubs in many cases. The School can boast wonderful Sports facilities, from our expertly maintained sports fields, to a 25m indoor swimming pool and Olympic sized Astro hockey pitch.

We have regular fixtures in a multitude of sports against a variety of other schools from across the region. Dragon teams are involved annually in an estimated 900 matches across different disciplines, with some busy afternoons regularly featuring fixtures for over 30 teams. Our dual principles of participation and excellence mean that we aim to get as many children involved as often as possible: the emphasis is on fun, whilst making sure our elite sides extend the talented individuals involved, often to regional and national standard.

The emphasis of the Games programme is very much on skill development and enjoyment, and this is fostered by a talented and experienced Games staff. In addition to our inter-school matches, we also have some keenly contested internal competitions between Forms as part of our larger Skipper Shield competition.

Sport offers so much to an individual and we are confident there is something for everyone in the extensive Games programme available at the Dragon: rugby, hockey, football, netball, cricket, tennis, table tennis, athletics, cross country, swimming, riding, golf, sculling, squash, fencing, judo, skiing, badminton, shooting, lacrosse and polo.
