The essential elements of French at the Pre-Prep are those of fun and confidence. The principle objective being that the children enjoy learning French as a language.

The topics covered in Years 1 and 2 are taught almost entirely orally although the written form may be presented once the children are very familiar with the correct pronunciation. This is to prevent children from applying English phonetics to the French word as they commit it to memory. There are no grammar explanations at this stage but it is useful to begin using some structures.

Year 3 children both consolidate their skills and knowledge of French through the repetition of some areas alongside the introduction of the written element. Grammatical explanations are introduced along with new topic areas.

At the Dragon Pre-Prep we are enthusiastic French language learners and we love learning about French culture. We gain confidence speaking French through fun activities such as singing and acting and we enjoy dressing up, making French props and creating an authentic French settings in the classroom.
