Summer Term Sports
In the summer term, we see a change of scenery, the posts come down and Cricket and Rounders take centre stage, with Tennis playing a supporting role across our many Astroturf pitches.
Both boys and girls play Tennis as part of the regular Games Programme, whilst additional Clubs are offered outside of school hours, as part of our partnership with Premier Tennis, along with squad practices for all year groups. Tennis matches are played against a number of school sides and the 21 tennis courts (with potential for 26) are well utilised. There is also the opportunity to have pre-season training in Majorca as well.
The Majorca trip. organised through Smaug Abroad, also takes in Athletics training, and this is another sport that thrives in the summer term, with regular meetings leading up to the IAPS National Prep School Championships, where Dragon athletes often earn a substantial medla haul. Over the last two weeks of term there is an extensive programme where everyone works towards the Dragon Five Star Award Scheme. Mass participation is the key and the culmination is the fantastic sports day which allows everyone to compete on behalf of one's form.
All the girls play rounders and tennis during the Summer Term. Our aim is that every girl should play in at least one rounders match during the term, and most girls will have the chance to play in many more as we have fixtures for a variety of ages and abilities.
For the boys, there is the opportunity to play on one of the best batting wickets on the prep school circuit, or make the most of one of the dozen all-weather nets available in the Astroturf. A large number of Dragon children have been selected to play representative cricket for Oxfordshire in recent years with great success, and the school regularly puts out several sides at all age groups on a matchday.
