During your child’s time at the Dragon, they will be offered the chance to go on a range of tours and expeditions. Some are open to all comers, some are applicable only to children in a certain year, and others such as the Music or Sports tours, are by invitation only. The trips on offer do change from year to year. Listed below are some of the residential mainstays:

  • Art Scholars Trip to St Ives
Every September, a group of artistic Year 8 pupils gets the chance to spend a long weekend in St Ives where we soak up the art, culture and landscape of the region. The trip is a real turning point for many of our young artists.
  • Keio Yochisha School Exchange (Japan)
Each year a group of Year 7 Dragons has the opportunity to travel to Japan for our exchange programme. The children immerse themselves in the exciting culture of this extraordinary country (from Ancient temples to a trip on the Bullet Train), and then welcome their host pupils to the UK.
  • New York School Exchange
A long-standing annual exchange programme for an intrepid group of Upper School Dragons; they experience all that NYC has to offer; its rich history, modern architecture, a show on Broadway, and then they invite their hosts to the UK.
  • South Africa Cricket Tour
A wonderfully memorable experience, enjoying some great matches with local schools and visit some of the spectacular places that South Africa can boast.
  • February Half-Term Skiing in Switzerland
A firm Dragon School tradition dating way back to the days of Hum Lynam; each year a large number of families and solo Dragons travel to Davos for excellent skiing and great camaraderie.
  • Girls’ Hockey Squad to Valkenburg, Netherlands
Now an annual event, the potential girls’ hockey squad travels to Holland for expert coaching and some challenging pre-season fixtures.

There are also a number of local trips that take place throughout the year, and these include:

  • Year 8 Expeditions (three Adventure-style venues after Common Entrance)
  • Year 7’s trip to Bath
  • Year 6’s trip to Portsmouth
  • Year 5’s trip to Warwick Castle
  • Year 4’s trip to Chiltern Open Air Museum

In addition to the above trips and tours, there are a variety of opportunities each year for our musicians to perform in prestigious venues outside of School. These have recently included St John’s Smith Square, Christ Church Cathedral, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, Merton College, Cadogan Hall London, St Luke’s Chelsea, the Sheldonian Theatre and the Town Hall in Oxford. There are also overseas tours, most recently to Belgium, Venice and Paris. We also facilitate concerts outside the School which have included Dragon School Choir performing Choral Evensong at Merton College, Dragonetti Strings visiting Marlborough College for a Strings Day and Big Band and Concert Band performing on the main stage at Disneyland Paris.
