Busy Dragons
Ashmolean
Artists
Artists from the Dragon Pre-
Prep, Lynams, were particularly
successful in this year’s Young
Art Oxford competition. As well
as first prize, third prize, a highly
commended and a commended in
the Reception to Year 3 category,
nearly 10% of the exhibited work
(from thousands of entries) was
that of Lynams’ artists. Their work
went on show to the public at the
Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
Professional
Players
The Dragon has embarked on
new major collaborative projects to
inspire young musicians. Working
with the Oxford Chamber Music
Festival and the Oxford Philomusica
Orchestra, the Dragon has helped
provide children with the opportunity
to play with professional musicians.
Across the two projects, more than
170 children from local primary
schools have joined dozens of
Dragon musicians for orchestral and
chamber music workshops, learning
from top professional performers.
Dramatic Dragons are making their mark
beyond the school stage. In London, a
Dragon is playing the part of Charlie in
Roald Dahl’s
Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory
at the Drury Lane Theatre.
Another finished his lead role in
Oliver!
in the West End and won the part of
Tommy in the production of
Matilda: The
Musical
. Locally others have appeared
in
The Sound of Music
with the Oxford
Operatic Society and in the lead role
in a short film,
The Secret
, written and
directed by Oxford University students.
At school, 150 children successfully sat
LAMDA exams and over 100 had second
auditions for a new film of
Swallows and
Amazons
, with several receiving a further
call back.
(Royal) Red
Nose Run
In March, staff and children took
part in the Comic Relief Charity Mile
around the Bardwell Road fields.
A host of fancy dress participants
included Bradley Wiggins and a
surprise appearance by members
of the Royal family (complete with
baby bump). Meanwhile at the
Dragon Pre-Prep, Lynams, staff and
children wore red clothes and noses
and raised £800.
