appeal

Leonard Cheshire

Disability launched its

founder's 100th birthday

year appeal at the Dragon

in January 2017. Leonard

Cheshire's (OD 1931)

life exemplified the

School's values. C Block

raised £3,240 through

a sponsored "swim the

channel" relay event.

Maasai warriors

In March 2017, two Maasai

"education warriors"

visited the Dragon to

thank the children for their

fundraising support and

to answer questions about

their lives, including wives,

spears, mud homes and

adapting Maasai culture to

the modern world.

Philharmonic

music day

Eighty young musicians

(aged 8 to 11), from eight

primary schools, joined

children at the The Dragon

Philharmonic Percussion

Workshop in April 2017

to rehearse and perform

an ensemble percussion

piece in a single day.

The children delivered a

rousing performance at the

end of the day.

Big Band tour

to Yorkshire

In April 2017, the Big Band

travelled with Mr and Ma

Smith to Harrogate to take

part in the 44th Harrogate

International Youth Festival

of Music. The band took

part in the Festival's

opening Grand Parade,

following marching bands

from the UK, USA and

Canada.

John Betjeman

Society

To commemorate 100 years

since John Betjeman (OD

1920) joined the Dragon,

we were delighted to

welcome The Betjeman

Society to the Dragon for

their AGM on 10 June 2017.

Headmaster John Baugh

unveiled a commemorative

plaque donated by the

Society. See page 17.

Transformational

Bursary Campaign

Since John and Wendy

Baugh joined the School,

almost £5 million has

been raised to fund the

Transformational Bursaries

Programme. This has

supported 60 pupils who

would otherwise not have

been able to access an

independent education.

See page 23.

Dragon Sale

Since September 2016,

the Dragon community

has raised nearly

£150,000 for charity.

The Dragon Charity

Christmas Sale held

last December raised

£102,500 and a further

£16,393 was raised

by Dragon children

through their Social

Impact Programme.

In addition, Dragon

children working on

their own initiatives

raised a further

£28,000. See page 7.

IT Schools Africa

The Dragon's ICT

Department supports

IT Schools Africa by

passing on equipment

that is no longer

needed. The charity

helps to create positive

change through IT

education and provides

schools with access to

e-Learning throughout

Africa, facilitating

education, enhancing

job prospects and

helping to transform

the wider African

economy. This

supports the Dragon's

Social Impact Policy,

see page 7.
