Dragon Networking

When Old Dragons gather

together, it is clear they represent

a very deep pool of talent

and experience. Our Dragon

Networking Events bring

together those qualities for the

benefit of all and we are grateful

to everyone who helps facilitate

these hugely valuable exchanges.

If you are an industry

expert in any of the following

fields, we would love to hear

from you to discuss hosting

a future networking event

with us: Property, Film, TV &

Theatre, Finance, Medicine or

Technology. We also welcome

your own thoughts for future

events. Please contact us on

from ‘the future’ through a most entertaining

video. The evening ended in a lively Q&A

session and afterwards, over drinks and

canapés, lively discussion on how digital

technology will shape our futures and careers

: Insurance

and Risk – Anything But Boring!

Thursday 19 January 2017

David Howden (OD 1977) and Andrew Barnes

(OD 1973) hosted a stimulating evening in

the Old Library at Lloyd’s of London.

Over 40 Old Dragons made their way

through the entrance of Richard Roger’s

dramatic building to gather in the more

traditional surroundings of the wood

panelled Old Library. Generously hosted by

David Howden, CEO of Hyperion Insurance,

and Andrew Barnes, Chairman of Lloyd’s

of London, the evening included a drinks

reception, presentation and an exclusive

tour of Lloyd’s of London for Old Dragons

interested in insurance.

Our hosts explained why insurance

is a crucial part of the world’s economy.

David gave a highly energetic and engaging

presentation. “There is more to insurance

than talking meerkats and dancing builders,”

Pop Up!

Andrew Barnes (1973), John Baugh and David Howden (1977)

Arduus ad Solem

: Pop Ups! encourage regular, informal

meet-ups across the Dragon community.

Pop Ups! focus on specific industry or interest

groups, but are organised by an OD (or group of ODs)

themselves and not the School. However, we will help

you promote your event to our large database of Old

Dragon contacts.

A Pop Up! event can be arranged at a time and place

of your choosing and can be used to promote a new

business venture, explore a shared interest or simply as

an informal and fun gathering for ODs in your region.

said David. “Insurance facilitates innovation,

helps emerging economies grow, and shapes

the world’s financial systems.”

One OD has already been lucky enough

to secure an internship because of the

evening; more ODs are now considering a

career in insurance. Clearly, insurance really

is ‘anything but boring!’.

Ceramics Pop Up!

with Toby Brundin (OD 1987)

In March, Toby Brundin hosted a Pop

Up! Networking event for the Dragon

community at the Contemporary Ceramics

Centre in London. Toby welcomed ODs and

guests for a short talk on the art of ceramics.

After viewing the latest exhibition, Toby

kindly provided drinks and nibbles, making

for a relaxed and enjoyable evening.
