Summer Term
Headmaster’s Update

eNews |

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this Summer edition of the Dragon Community News. With the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and the return of face-to-face teaching and learning, there has been a real air of enthusiasm and optimism around school as Dragon pupils and staff embraced all the exciting learning opportunities of the Summer Term. From the resumption of sports fixtures to the commencement of Reception’s ‘Muddy Dragons’ Forest School at the Pre-Prep, and from Saturday morning QUEST‘s ‘Classical Dragons’ re-enactment of the Persian invasion of Ancient Greece to an array of Sports Day events, it has been a Summer Term full of enrichment.

Within this Summer Term edition of Community News, we take a walk down Dragon Lane with the Beloff family. We dive into the Dragon archives with our School archivist Gay Sturt, looking back at the Dragon Centenary of 1977, and join Tony Escritt (OD 1955) as he attempts to flummox us all with a new 36-letter word. We also enjoy a special episode of ‘Bun Break With…’ where a family of ODs and current young Dragons, meet Head-Elect Emma Goldsmith, who joins the Dragon in September 2021. You will also find the ever-popular Old Dragon updates, OD Bookshelf section, as well as a selection of featured articles. In addition, I do hope you will enjoy the gallery at the bottom of this page, sharing a few selected highlights from this Summer Term at the Dragon.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued support of the Dragon throughout the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, thank you for the very kind wishes I have received during my time at the Dragon. It has been a privilege to lead the School and I wish the Dragon community every success for the future. I do hope you and your families keep safe and well and enjoy a happy and restful summer.

With all best wishes,

Crispin Hyde-Dunn
