David is CEO of Hyperion, the world’s largest employee-owned insurance group with divisions in broking and underwriting under the Howden, RKH and DUAL brands. He also oversees the activities of the Group’s retail broking business as CEO of Howden. Since he founded Hyperion in 1994 David has been the driving force behind its expansion. His focus is on building the Group’s enviable international distribution network, as well as shaping and implementing its development and direction. David has grown the business from three people in a small office in London, to what is, today, a global group with over 3,500 people in 39 countries across Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, the USA, and Latin America. Hyperion’s impressive growth has been recognised every year for the past five years by the Sunday Times in their Fast Track listings. In 2016, the company featured in the International Track 200, which ranks the UK’s private companies with the fastest growth in international sales and moved up over 100 places to 52nd in the Top Track 250, which ranks UK private companies’ overall sales. Over the past five years the Group’s growth has been phenomenal, with a compound annual growth rate of 41%.
David has over 30 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s and London overseas markets, having started his career as an insurance broker at Alexander Howden in 1981. David, an Old Dragon, is married with 3 daughters; all of whom are either at, or went to, the Dragon. He lives on the Oxfordshire Buckinghamshire borders where he farms and, amongst other things, breeds English Longhorn Cattle. He also owns The Pointer: a pub, a butcher and a restaurant which is predominantly supplied by produce from his farm.
