"Pupils have an unusually well developed sense of their place as global citizens because of the importance the school places on its social impact." ISI Inspection Report November 2009
Through the various elements of our Social Impact Programme; partnerships with local schools and charities, fund and awareness raising, presentations and visits the Dragon aims to help pupils think about how people really make a difference to local, national and global issues. We want to draw attention to the characteristics of those individuals and organisations whose vision, energy, compassion, dedication and generosity are already making a difference.
We want our pupils to be able to recognise problems and begin to identify the steps required to develop solutions and to focus on the positive impact education can have on social problems. We are, by most definitions, privileged people. We recognise our responsibilities and hope that through the experience and awareness gained at this school we can encourage our pupils to be leaders in philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, to become the visionaries who will set the future agenda for beneficial social transformation.
In addition to our local and national partnerships we have over the past twelve years developed relationships with organisations working across the globe. Our international projects have enabled us to visit and to play with vulnerable children in the townships of Soweto, Alexandria and Kayalisha in South Africa, orphanages in Calcutta, India and the favelas of Rio de Janiero. We are delighted that we have been able to return the hospitality we received and have hosted the children we met on each of these visits here in Oxford. There is an ongoing partnership and legacy to these projects and we hope to extend the programme in the future.
Looking for Partners
The Dragon is actively looking to develop partnerships with organisations who may benefit from use of the school's expertise, resources and facilities. We are delighted to hear from schools, clubs and other organisations across the local community.
Please contact either Danny Gill, Steve Poyntz or Gareth Jones for further details and to discuss ideas, availability etc.
Please note that due to the high numbers of charity requests we are receiving we will be focusing on particular sectors in the coming years. In 2009/10 we will be supporting charities working to improve the environment, in 2010/11 we will be supporting charities working with the elderly and in 2011/12 we will focus on charities with an emphasis on developing sport in the UK. |
