During a child's time at the Dragon, they will be offered the chance to go on a range of tours and expeditions. Smaug Abroad - an independent company* - has for a number of years organised these trips for the pupils and continues to do so at the request of the School. Parents contract for the trips directly with Smaug, which is ABTOT and ATOL licensed to provide financial protection.

The Dragon offers a variety of trips through Smaug. Some are open to all comers, some are applicable only to children in a certain year (or 'Block'), and others such as the Choir Tours or Team Sports Tours, are by invitation only. The trips on offer do change from year to year, but there are some mainstays:

  • Year 8 (post Common Entrance) trips in June to UK Outward Bound centres, Italy or Morocco
  • Year 7 Cevennes trip in August
  • Versailles School Exchange
  • Choir and Sports Tours (every other year)
  • Chamonix climbing course (must be over 12 years of age)
  • New York School Exchange (Year 7 and 8)
  • Art Scholars Trip
  • Easter Athletics training in Mallorca

As well as the school trips, Smaug Abroad organises trips for anyone and everyone, depending on an enjoyable mix of customer demand and their inspiration. This year these will range from downhill skiing in Switzerland to cross-country skiing in Norway, from Egypt to Borneo and many more. Smaug also proposes tailor made holidays for individuals.
