Summer Term

CricketTennisAthletics
Cricket is the major boy's sport in the summer and we field six senior school teams and three or four teams at each of the younger age groups.

Throughout the school the children are encouraged to play enjoyable winning cricket and the eleven nets on the astro bustle with activity every day after school.

Tennis matches are played against a number of school sides and the 21 tennis courts (with potential for 26) are well utilised. The 1st VI make an annual pilgrimage to Wimbledon and some enter the IAPS competition in the summer holidays. There are also internal Knock Out competitions. In some years, there is also the opportunity to have pre-season training in Majorca as well.

All the girls play rounders and tennis during the Summer Term. Our aim is that every girl should play in at least one rounders match during the term, and most girls will have the chance to play in many more. Many will also be in tennis matches, and we have fixtures for a variety of ages and abilities. As with the boys, the girls are able to make the most of the professional tennis coach who comes to the Dragon on four afternoons a week. The relaxed tennis and rounders clubs after school are always popular (sometimes with the boys too!).

Athletics thrives throughout the term with 8 or 9 meetings against other schools. Our best athletes have had great success at the National Prep Schools Championships, winning eleven medals in July 2006 which placed us top of the Medals Table, and three in 2008. Over the last two weeks of term there is an extensive programme where everyone works towards the Dragon Five Star Award Scheme. Mass participation is the key and the culmination is the fantastic sports day which allows everyone to compete on behalf of one's form.
