The Head and his wife

It is obviously important for every child that they are happy at school. At the Dragon there are a number of lines of support which are available for children to call on whenever there are concerns or worries and they need someone to talk to.

The Headmaster and his wife are fully involved with the pastoral welfare of the children. The Headmaster, whilst not a Tutor, is kept informed through a regular series of meetings with the Head of Pastoral Care, Heads of Upper and Middle School, Houseparents and the School management Committee of any major pastoral issues. Attendance at pastoral Meetings and the Minutes of these meetings keep him informed of pastoral policy decisions and other areas of concern or development. The Headmaster is responsible for all pastoral staff appointments in the school.

The Headmaster's wife is the School's Child Welfare and Protection officer and shares an office with the Head of Pastoral Care in the centre of the school. She is kept fully informed of major pastoral matters through regular meetings and discussions with the Head of Pastoral Care. She also takes pastoral responsibility for the matrons in Boarding Houses.

The Headmaster and his wife visit the boarding houses during the year and invite all new pupils for tea at their house during the first few weeks of a new term. Senior boarding pupils and Prefects are also invited for dinner at the house during the year.

In addition, all staff play a roll in Pastoral care of the children:
