Green Fingers Activity

The Green Fingers TeamThe Green Fingers activity is run by two Dragon mums, both of whom have qualifications in gardening. The activity incorporates various cross-curriculur themes and encourages the children to spend time outdoors by using a hands-on approach.

The pupils are able to see the results of their hard work each summer as their plants mature and blossom and hopefully produce fruit and vegetables. The winter months are spent learning about soils and plants and preparing for the warmer months. The diary below keeps a record of what the group achieves each week:

Diary - Easter Term Week 4

On 3rd February the Greenfingers activity group had a very interesting visit to Cripley Meadow Allotments, in nearby Jericho. The group talked about how allotments work, the way of producing food on small plots, and the cost, time and effort needed to maintain a tidy plot. They looked at two plots in detail to see what is growing at this time of the year and did some watering.

Diary - Summer Term

Green Fingers ActivityGreen Fingers ActivityWe have been very busy these last few weeks planting seeds of squash, carrotts, cabbage, cauliflower, chillies and herbs. The tomatoes are growing well in the polytunnel and the potatoes are growing well outside. Our new willow dome is growing but not all the whips have taken.
