The second Eco Warriors activity group this term was asked to take part in a tree planting scheme in the school grounds. We discussed how trees are an asset to the environment in helping to off set carbon dioxide along with considering other purposes for trees in our environment. They enjoyed using the internet to research the benefits of planting new trees along with considering the best type of tree to plant in school, using ICT to create fact sheets and plans on how to care for the trees. We had great fun trekking across the fields and school grounds to consider the best place to plant the trees and the group even took part in some tree hugging – a great photo opportunity! On Tuesday 3rd March 2009the tree planting finally took part after the initial planting being thwarted by the terrible snowy conditions and frozen grounds. It was fantastic to see the group helping to dig the hole, prepare the soil and water the trees as they were lowered into the ground. A truly special Dragon moment. This group of Middle School children certainly demonstrated their care and consideration towards the Dragon environment and the planet as a whole.
