Green Curriculum - Chicken Run

Chicken RunDuring the first half of term Year 6 have been using their design and woodworking skills to construct a chicken house for use in Stuart-Clarks boarding house garden. The project was driven by the desire to look at and experience sustainable ways of providing good food. Under the watchful eye of Mr Van Tromp, the base was put together from wood which had been recycled from a skip. The side panels were then constructed in a modular form to make transportation up Bardwell Road a little easier.

Mr Nicholson supervised the final assembly of the house at Stuart Clarks with another Year 6 group. The Maintenance department have kindly provided some secure, five-star fencing, with a gate, so that our feathered friends will not only have a comfortable house in which to perch, but a good size piece of garden in which to roam. Next week, Mrs Stuart Clark will be taking the junior boarding Eco representatives to the Cotswold Chicken Farm to choose some birds.
