Green Dragons
The Dragon has now launched a major school-wide sustainability initiative and has enrolled in the internationally recognised Eco Schools award programme which guides schools towards greater sustainability. The scheme provides a framework to help embed green principles in the heart of school life and is already running in 46 countries. Working through different stages of the programme will ultimately lead to Green Flag accreditation which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity. The process which leads to this coveted award will address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.
Children are the driving force behind Eco-Schools – they lead the eco-committee and, as a first step, will help carry out an audit to assess the school’s environmental status. Over the coming weeks and months the Action Team will identify key targets for sustainability and initiate a programme to improve our environment. The aim is to promote thoughtful ways of sustainable living within our entire community and to educate future generations of Dragons.

Green Curriculum - Chicken Run II
Just before half term some of our boarding Eco reps took a trip to the Cotswolds Chicken Farm with Ma Stuart-Clark to choose the two lucky birds who will take up residence in the 5 star chicken house at Stuart-Clarks boarding house in Bardwell Road. After chatting with the Eco reps the owner helped the Dragons to choose two healthy birds: Coconut – an Amberley Gold and Caramel - a hybrid Rhode Island Red and Suffolk White. Their wings were gently clipped and then the birds transported to their new house. After a restful half term, Coconut and Caramel are looking very at home and are gearing up to lay their first eggs. Ma Stuart-Clark is standing by to scramble them…!
