Green Dragons

Eco DragonThe Dragon has now launched a major school-wide sustainability initiative and has enrolled in the internationally recognised Eco Schools award programme which guides schools towards greater sustainability. The scheme provides a framework to help embed green principles in the heart of school life and is already running in 46 countries. Working through different stages of the programme will ultimately lead to Green Flag accreditation which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity. The process which leads to this coveted award will address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.

Children are the driving force behind Eco-Schools – they lead the eco-committee and, as a first step, will help carry out an audit to assess the school’s environmental status. Over the coming weeks and months the Action Team will identify key targets for sustainability and initiate a programme to improve our environment. The aim is to promote thoughtful ways of sustainable living within our entire community and to educate future generations of Dragons.

Green Flag!

Green FlagWe are delighted to announce that, following our earlier achievement of the bronze and silver levels, we have now been awarded the coveted Eco Schools Green Flag. Last year we embarked upon this internationally recognised environmental programme as part of our school-wide mission to improve sustainability practices across the Dragon. The Eco teams, whole school and boarding, from Reception to Year 8, have met regularly to share their environmental vision and initiate projects that reflect their ideas and those of many others within our community.
