Activities and Clubs

Cooking ClubClimbingArt
The Activities and Clubs programme is aimed at fostering pupils' confidence, independence and breadth of interest both as individuals as well as within the framework of a team. Great emphasis is placed on developing the whole child, making sure there is a balance in their extra-curriculur activities and giving them the key life skills they need to successfully cope with the move to their Senior Schools.

Activities (3.10 - 4.10)

The Activities Programme is part of the school day and therefore what the children do is decided by the school which ensures a healthier balance to each individual programme. Every child has at least two Activity slots each week and the system for the majority of children is that they rotate through as many as twelve different activities in one year, often doing four a term. Some children, however, particularly in the Upper School, will be required for certain things such as music ensembles, swim squads, scholarship exam preparation and this will mean they do not rotate through as many.

Most of the Activities are run by the staff, but we do also bring in outside expertise where necessary.

Clubs (After School)

As well as the compulsory Activity sessions, we offer a variety of after school Clubs which are mainly voluntary. Again, some children are required for certain Clubs such as 1st XV rugby practices or Choir rehearsals but in the main the choice is down to the individual child and his/her parents, perhaps in consultation with the child's tutor.

Again, many of the Clubs are run by the school staff, but more outside expertise is necessary, and with this brings an extra charge in some cases.

The Activities and Clubs do vary from term to term and are not necessarily available to all age groups. Choices for Clubs can be made electronically having viewed what is on offer on the parental pages of the website.
