Dragon Health Centre

“Boarders’ health is promoted by a caring and supportive staff team which places the needs of all pupils at the centre of the school. The school has a large and well equipped health centre which is staffed by three qualified nurses and which offers 24-hour cover.”
(Ofsted Inspection Report, 2011)

The Dragon Health Centre, known as DHC, is equipped to provide for the medical and emotional needs of all the children and staff at the Dragon School and Lynams. It is staffed 24 hours a day by qualified Nursing Sisters. A matron and an administrator assist throughout the school day.

The facilities within DHC include a medical surgery, dental surgery, four dormitories accommodating a total of eleven beds, two bathrooms, TV room, quiet area and a fully equipped kitchen.

A local dentist visits the school and runs a regular dental surgery to those boarding children in his care. There are two General Practitioners assigned to the Dragon School who run a surgery every weekday morning in the Dragon Health Centre. On call doctors can be utilised if a child is unwell out of surgery hours and will be called at the discretion of the duty nurse.

Children can visit DHC anytime when unwell or upset or even when they just need some "time out". A friendly face and listening ear can always be found.
