As part of the recent children’s Eco Conference at the Dragon, two speakers came to address children from local primary and prep schools.

Gabriel Hemery from the Sylva Foundation captivated children with news from the OneOak project: an initiative that involved children from local primary schools in following the life story of a 200 year old oak tree from the Blenheim Palace estate. During Gabriel’s talk, children learned about sustainable forest management through song and dance and found out how the tree had been used for timber, art, fuel and even wood shavings for smoked salmon at the Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons!

In the afternoon, the children experienced a different view on forest management by hearing from local artist Angela Palmer who spoke about her Ghost Forest installation, which has travelled from London to Copenhagen and is now on view in Oxford to highlight the destruction of the world’s rainforests.
