Dragon Vs Caldicott
From the Headmaster
This is the last DragonNews of the term and the next mailing will include my end of term letter and School Notices.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish my PA, Rachel Borland, all the very best as she departs on her maternity leave today. I’m sure you will all join me in these good wishes. My new PA, Alex Lister, starts at the beginning of January and, in the meantime, all e-mails and phone calls to Rachel will be forwarded automatically to another member of the support staff. Could I ask for your patience and understanding on this during next week and in the run up to Christmas? You can always e-mail me directly – as some of you do – if it is urgent or important.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the various Christmas events in the coming week and of course the Sale. Thank you for your continued support.

Evening Parenting Group
Many parents express an interest in the Family Links Parenting Group sessions which the Dragon runs. Currently the group meets on weekday mornings which are convenient for many parents. We also have some people signed up for next term’s evening group, but we need 4 or 5 more people in order to run this course. To help us plan ahead, we would be most grateful for your views about the best time to run these courses. If you have any comments or indeed wish to book a place, please e mail

Old Discs or Games?
An A Blocker is in need of old CDs, DVDs and Games for his Dragon Sale Stall called ‘Wacky, Hacky, Sacky’. If you have any you could donate to be sold on the stall, please drop them off at the Lodge or Classroom 26, for the attention of Ma Ponsford. Thank you.
BOARDING HOUSE NEWS
Boys Get Festive

On 1 December the boys in Wilson’s were definitely getting in to the Christmas spirit. They opened their advent calendars with Christmas lights flickering down the stairs and enjoyed decorating the large Christmas tree. ‘Tis the season to be jolly trala la la laaaa la la la la…’
Just Relaxing

School House Boys took time to relax on their new House cushions after a busy day at School.
MasterChef 2011

The winner of the Annual Gunga Din MasterChef Competition was announced in Gunga last week as George Manchester, who prepared a Gooey Chocolate Pudding for everyone to enjoy.
Gunga had 25 participants in the competition which started after the first Exeat and finished on Wednesday of last week. The boys have cooked a wide range of delicious dishes including Thai Curry, Eton Mess, Rice Crispie Cakes, Chocolate Brownies, Sushi, Margherita Pizza, Uzbekistani Plov and even Salmon Coubiliac. Marked on taste, presentation, difficulty of the dish and cleaning up, the overall results were very close with the winners achieving 86, 85 and 81 points out of 100 maximum.
Thank you to the Gunga parents and all the boys for creating such scrumptious taste sensations!
St Niklaus Visit

With some encouragement from the German Senior Matron, Tina, St Niklaus visited the Gunga boys last Monday night. On Tuesday morning the boys woke to find that St Niklaus had left a sweet treat and personal poem for each of them in a beautiful Christmas basket that the boys found in their dorm in the morning of the 6th. St Niklaus provided a fantastic kick start to the festive season, so thank you very much Old St Niklaus from all of Gunga.

NEWS
‘Try-umph’ Outstanding rugby at the Dragon
The Dragon has had one of its most successful rugby seasons on record. Nine of the schools teams were unbeaten in all their games, including the U12A side (10 wins and 2 draws), whilst the 1st XV won 13 of their 14 matches. Across all the age groups the school notched up an impressive 99 wins in total, the highest number in the history of the school. “These results represent a huge commitment from the children” said Gareth Jones, Director of Sport at the Dragon. “But more significant is the number of children we got out onto the pitch representing the school which is also at an all-time high. They should all be immensely proud of their achievements.” (See main picture).
DRAGON SALE UPDATE
Dragon Double Act

We’re delighted to announce that OD Jack Whitehall and his dad Michael Whitehall will be opening the Sale this year. Following the success of their Edinburgh Fringe comedy show last year they’re busy working together on a new show for next year (as well as raising money for charity, see them on Million Pound Drop here). Join us as they share memories of their Dragon days and then move on to the MCLT for Wacky Washing Lines (a poetry reading with a difference) – please bring along a piece of wacky washing, donate at the door, and join us for one early morning appointment that’s really worth getting up early for!
Bid, Bid, Bid!

An incredible array of Silent Auction lots are now listed on the Sale website and await your bids – lots range from MCC batting coaching and bowling analysis at Lord’s to photography shoots and courses, royal boxes, food and wine treats galore, fitness training, portrait painting and literary consultations - not be missed. And the 12 Days of the Christmas Sale online continues too – bid for a bargain with luxury designer cushions, Horrid treats, and even a trampoline!
