Arduus ad Solem groups bring together members of the Dragon community from industry or special interest groups for a networking gathering with a theme. Groups and events are championed by Old Dragons, but open for all members of the Dragon Community to attend - including past, present and current parents and former staff. The Arduus ad Solem Network aims to build relationships across the community, as well as offering mentoring opportunities to ODs on varying career paths. *We are delighted to develop Dragon Community networking opportunities. Where costs are incurred, we charge a small fee to offset costs but subsidise young ODs to support them in the early stages of their careers. 21st - 25th May 2017 - Old Dragon Art Exhibition
The Old Dragon Art Exhibition was held at the School in conjunction with Oxford Art Weeks. The exhibtion was opened by Jenny Saville RA and featured 35 OD artists and staff. The image on the left is by Theo Harman-Francis, a Junior Old Dragon. Read more about the exhibtion at this news story.
January 2017 - Arduus ad Solem: Insurance & Risk – Anything But Boring!
Over 40 Old Dragons attended our latest networking event hosted by David Howden (OD 1977), CEO of Hyperion Insurance, and Andrew Barnes (OD 1973), Chairman of Lloyd’s of London. As well as a drinks reception and presentation, the evening included an exclusive tour of Lloyd’s of London for Old Dragons interested in a career in insurance. Our industry leaders explained why insurance is a crucial part of the world’s economy and how insurance facilitates innovation across all industries, shaping the world’s financial systems and helping economies to grow – the evening was indeed ‘anything but boring!’. November 2016 - Arduus ad Solem: Dragon Digital Future Forum
Old Dragons Guy Gadney and Robin Wong led a fascinating evening in the Lynam Hall on the ‘Digital Future'. Guy and Robin are at the forefront of thinking - about how technology is shifting our experience and strategies for life and their presentations were thought provoking and wide ranging. Ibe Akoh, (Head of ICT – Teaching and Learning) spoke on the impact of ICT on education, and our very own ‘Digital Dragons’ showed an entertaining video reporting from their time-travel into the future. Over drinks there was a chance to meet ODs in the industry to discuss new ideas. We hope to hold another event on this topic in the future. Read more
March 2016 - Arduus ad Solem: Dragon Entrepreneurs on Fire
A panel of Old Dragon entrepreneurs held current parents, ODs and staff spellbound at the Arduus ad Solem: Entrepreneurs networking forum. Held at stylish, retro-inspired The Trampery in London, the evening buzzed with stories and anecdotes of bold risk taking and inspiring success. Our OD host, Ted Mott (OD 1956) introduced our four speakers: Lucy Eaton (2001), theatre entrepreneur, Lucius Cary OBE (1960), founder and MD of Oxford Technology Management (OTM), Mark Esiri (1978), founder of Venrex Investment Management and Roger Mavity (1956), author and advertising entrepreneur. John Baugh, Headmaster, explained that the spirit of creativity and individualism was still alive and well at the Dragon.A lively debate and discussion was followed by sharing memories over drinks.
