From the Headmaster

Welcome back to everyone after half-term. Parents may remember that the School’s boarding provision was inspected by Ofsted over three days in January and I promised to make the inspection report available to you once we had received it. Hard copies will be sent to the parents of boarders in due course but it is also available for all parents to read on our web site. Please click here to view.

As ever, please keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events. I look forward to seeing many of you around the school over the coming weeks.

Netball Fixture Change

Please note that tomorrow's match for the U13 Houghtons will now be played at Pinewood (not at the Dragon) starting at 2.30 p.m. and the U13B’s do not have a match.

C Block Parents’ Evening

A reminder that the Parents’ Meeting for C Block takes place on Sunday 6 March in the Forum and the Lynam Hall from 6.00 – 8.30 p.m. If you have not yet done so, please let This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fiddler on the Roof

Please remember that you will need to reserve a seat if you wish to see what promises to be a really exciting production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Performances will be held in the Lynam Hall on Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 March at 6.45 p.m. If you would like to reserve a seat please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If Dragon children are attending (i.e. not Lynams), please remember that they must be wearing their ‘B’ Suits. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to provide Boarders’ Supper for Day Children in the audience (the cast will of course be fed separately), so please make arrangements to feed your children.

Sculling News

The Avon County Head stopped accepting entries to this Saturday’s event as it has been oversubscribed with the online entry deadline being brought forward as a consequence. Mr Walker apologises for not being able to make a submission to the event on this occasion.

We said goodbye to Ashley Towne, the Club’s external coach, who left the school at half-term.  Ashley has looked after the school boathouse activity over the last two years and a career move meant that he couldn’t continue his work at the Dragon. The sculling group would like to thank him for all that he has done for them; the children will miss his fun.

As the evenings lighten up the squad will be sculling later on in the afternoons. With immediate effect, the return time of the Wolvercote group to the Dragon will be 5.45 p.m. at the latest with the exception of Wednesdays when they will be back no later than 4.30 p.m.

Charity Event at Blenheim Palace

Say goodbye to winter blues and celebrate spring with the NSPCC who are organising a spring walk round the grounds of Blenheim Palace between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. on Saturday 9 April. Did You See?

The Dragon’s philanthropy programme was featured last week in the London Evening Standard. The piece led to Danny Gill being interviewed the following day on BBC Radio London in a charity themed evening drivetime programme. If you missed them, catch up here.

Parents of Catholic Boarders

If you would like your child to receive their First Confession in April or their First Holy Communion in June, please contact Fr. John at Blackfriars (John D O'Connor OP This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Best of British Night

Charlbury Best of British

Following the success of last term’s ‘International Evening’, Charlbury House held a ‘Best of British’ night last Tuesday. As well as a challenging quiz to test how much the boys knew, Mr Hall taught them some authentic ‘Scouse’ lingo. The boys shared their knowledge and understanding of various British countries, including an explanation about the Gaelic game of Hurling. Delicious treats were sampled including Welsh cheese, Irish soda bread and Scottish shortbread and to finish they sung the five verses of ‘God Save the Queen’. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Davos Dragons

Having read of green pistes and other horror stories, 114 Dragon staff, parents and children have returned safely from the annual ski trip, with reports of fantastic snow for beginners, intermediates and off-pisters alike (See main picture). The week ended with a series of slalom races. For the second year running Ollie Smith was the fastest Dragon on skis, beating Vincent Moisy into second place by over 6 seconds.  The winners of the other races were Nicolas Moisy, Chang Heon Lee, Archie Barnes, Alexander Elkin and Finn Dunleavy.
