Gunga Honey |
From the Headmaster
Common Entrance is done and dusted and all we wait for now are the results. Well done to all the candidates for the extremely mature, sensible and calm manner in which this week has been approached and we all look forward to hearing some good news next week.
There is much to look forward to in the coming weeks and I urge all parents to keep a very close eye on the school calendar and their inboxes for details.

Yummy Honey
The boys of Gunga Din delighted in scraping and sieving a delicious honey-filled honeycomb this week. The boys then enjoyed the sweet honey spread on hot buttered toast and it was unanimously declared delicious. (See main picture)
Sculling at Blenheim
The Blenheim Regatta will be held on Saturday 11 June. Dragon contenders achieved an equal first with Upper Thames last year, and this year 35 children are being entered with hopes to snatch the Victor Ludorum and beat our previous medal haul. Parents are welcome to attend the regatta and may take their entered child directly to Blenheim rather than to school on the day. Please let

A Force to be Reckoned With

Year 3 children have been exploring their own ways to test the strongest magnet, in Science lessons this week. They masterminded investigations, presented ideas to the class and discussed the fairness of their tests. The children concluded that the size and weight of a magnet could not determine its magnetic strength.

Invitation to Current C Block Parents to Learn about B Block Tutor Groups
Just a reminder, this Saturday 11th June at 11.45 a.m., in the Michael Cowan Lecture Theatre, current C Block parents are invited to learn more about B Block tutor groups.
Mary Taylor and Rob Overend will be giving a short informal presentation and fielding questions you may have about this. The main aim is to explain how and why we organise the groups in the way that we do ahead of time, so when your child is told much later in the year, you’ll be well in the picture, and in the know.
Please do feel free to come along. There is no need to confirm your attendance. If you are unable to make it, we will endeavour to publish a short explanation of what will be talked about.
Strings and Singers

The Dragonetti Strings and the Dragon Chamber Choir have been invited to perform at the ‘Music for Youth National Festival’, Birmingham Symphony Hall, on Monday 4 July. The groups will perform Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ and the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ from Handel’s Messiah. Tickets for the event start at £3 and can be ordered from the box office on 0121 780 3333 or online by clicking here.
Maryland Singers
The Charles Wesley Singers and the Academy of St Cecilia Youth Orchestra from Maryland, USA, will visit the Dragon on Monday 27 June and give a concert in St Andrew’s Church at 7.30 p.m. The main piece in their programme is a Mass by Haydn. Help with hosting the visit would be appreciated, this would involve bed and breakfast for two nights, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 June. If you are able to help, please contact

All Out for 47
On the last weekend before Half Term, the Dragon welcomed parents and children from Primrose Hill Cricket Club in London to play against the U8, U9 and U10 teams. Families arrived to enjoy a pre-match barbeque lunch next to the river Cherwell before the children got down to business in the warm afternoon sun. Click here for more information.
Sensational Swimming
The U11 Swimming team enjoyed a clean sweep at the Stowe Prep Schools Relay event held just before Half Term. The Dragons fought off competition from over 10 schools to win their Freestyle and Medley Relay events. The teams are now training for the English Schools National Primary Finals in Sheffield over the Exeat weekend.

A ‘C’ Block Dragon swimmer (pictured centre) has struck Gold and Silver at the ASA Southern Regional swimming championships held at Crawley over Half Term. Swimming for the City of Oxford, he won the 200m Breaststroke and was placed second in the 200m Freestyle. He has also qualified for the National Age Group championships to be held in Sheffield in July.
